We all know that finding talent is a challenge in today’s competitive marketplace. It’s one that requires a fresh approach to recruiting talent. KPMG Italy recently flipped the traditional interview format upside down and launched a hack-a-thon to find their newest Trailblazers.

KPMG’s hiring-focused hack-a-thon idea was born from a desire to not only evaluate candidates for technical expertise but also soft skills like teamwork and innovation.

“Soft skills are just as important as technical skills when building solid and robust teams.” shared Gianluca Carletti, Associate Partner, KPMG. “It was important to us to facilitate face-to-face interaction.”

Over five days, KPMG hosted a group of 30 candidates with varying backgrounds from IT to Marketing. Candidates were split into teams and proposed solutions to real customer problems, allowing KPMG to see both technical and soft skills in action. The result: upon successful participation in the hackathon, KPMG hired 4 Trailblazers into their Salesforce practice.

In addition to finding talent, KPMG wanted this event to “not simply be a recruiting event but also a moment of innovation for our customers,” shared Carletti. Thanks to the support of a KPMG customer, candidates were able to work together on-site in Tuscany.

KPMG also took great care when evaluating the 100+ applicants before selecting the final hack-a-thon group. The key ingredient to building a strong candidate pool, according to KPMG is, “to consider not only the participants’ specific studies, but also their own stories.”

As a Salesforce Talent Alliance employer, we’re proud to see KPMG listening to and helping write new Trailblazer stories while also activating multiple aspects of the Salesforce ecosystem through customer collaboration.
